Asian Liquor Market Thrives, Even After Death of Kim Jong Il

The Rooster and I were perusing the world wide web for this week's most important stories, when we happened across this little gem of a news clip:

For sale in Singapore: $200,000 bottle of whisky

It seems that even after the untimely death of Kim Jong Il (noted lover of Hennessy cognac, RIP), the wealthier among Asians will spare no expense when it comes to getting liquored up.  Currently in Singapore, the DFS Master of Spirits (everyone's favorite travelling booze showcase) has up for sale, a $200,000 (U.S.dollars) bottle of Johnnie Walker blended whiskey, distilled in 1952.

Dear Leader may be gone, but his legacy of war crimes-style spending on booze lives on in Asia.
And it seems DFS is looking to take the Singaporean whiskey aficionados for a ride.  The same bottle of whiskey is for sale for 100,000 pounds in England, which is the equivalent of around $159,100 in U.S. dollars.  And that package comes fully equipped with a silver-lined crystal decanter, two crystal glasses, AND a leather-bound booklet.  What gives?!

I love my whiskey, anyone who knows me is well aware of this fact.  But no whiskey can ever bring back the loss of $200,000.  I would have to drown myself in bottles and bottles of whiskey to recover from the buyer's remorse I'd surely feel.  I'll just stick to my Jack Daniels for weekends, Gentleman's Jack for holidays, and Single Barrel Jack for if the president decides to visit us in Zone 3.  Bottoms up!
